Overview

Buduruwagala Rock Temple, hidden in the jungles near Wellawaya, features seven massive Buddha figures carved into a single rock face. These carvings date back over 1,000 years and remain some of the tallest in Sri Lanka.

The central statue rises 15 meters high, surrounded by smaller, intricately carved images. Despite its size, the temple remains peaceful and uncrowded, offering a spiritual experience in nature.

The short walk to the site passes through forest paths where peacocks and birds often appear. Interpretive signs help explain the history and symbolism behind the carvings.

It’s a sacred and silent place, perfect for quiet reflection.
